Dave is unreasonable. He takes things too far. Even the smallest details are blown totally out of proportion.
Let’s take the Rock menu holder at the Orin Swift Tasting Room as an example. In most cases (and for most people), a menu holder is by any objectionable measure, not a big deal. In fact, it’s unlikely you’ve encountered a single notable menu holder in your entire life.
Until now.
The Rock tasting menus rest in perfectly milled volcanic rocks set atop the warm California Cypress of the bar. Each stone is unique, and hand selected by Dave. They come from the iconic Stagecoach vineyard in Napa Valley. Known for its ‘Extreme Terroir’, the mountain terrain’s rocky soil is home to the very vines that grow some of the grapes used in Orin Swift wines like Papillon and Trigger Finger. With his pickup full, Dave chauffeured the rocks to a local stone mill where each one was precision cut to the exact dimension of the newly designed menus.
The obsession to detail and commitment to taking creative ideas to extremes has defined Dave as a winemaker. The Rock Experience shares that spirit. Though it’s the most accessible option at the Tasting Room, the level of ambition remains the same.
Is it worth planning a trip to Napa Valley to see a rock? No. Is it worth planning a trip to Napa Valley to uncover every unreasonable detail in the Rock Tasting Experience? Absolutely.
